On September 6th, 2025 The World Alliance of Indigenous Peoples and guests will be setting sail in Miami on Carnival’s Sunrise to The Bahamas in celebration of our Northeastern Woodland indigenous nations and female tribal leaders and elders. The event will feature cultural presentations, healing circles, intertribal dancing, the Red dress and Red Shirt MMIW dinner,  Ribbon Skirts and Ribbon Shirts Language Revitalization Dinner and a concert to highlight native females in jazz. The entire event is being held on the water to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our water resources. In our Northeastern Woodland indigenous culture Men are keepers of fire and women are the keepers of water. Therefore, we are asking that all  keepers of water join us for this historical event and bring your families and friends.

During this 5-day excursion to the Bahamas, we will be recognizing keepers of water who have served their communities as advocates and cultural mentors and teachers for decades. One individual we will be recognizing, in particular, is Carla ‘Wandering Spirit Woman’ Alexander “Mèmsuxwèt Manëtu Lënapéxkwe”. She is a member of the Ramapough Munsee Lenape Nation of New York and New Jersey. Wandering Spirit Woman is a 62 years old who wears many hats including Deer Clan Chief, Council Member, Elder, Clan Mother, Mentor, Teacher, Mother, Grandmother, Auntie, Sister, Daughter.

Wandering Spirit Woman serves as the Native American Ministry Coordinator at Brook Native American Presbyterian Church, a Historical Native American Church founded by her Great, Great Grandfather Samuel DeFreese, Sr. She was very instrumental in having Brook Native American Presbyterian Church recognized as one of six Native American Presbyterian Church’s in the Northeast Synod and 96th in the country. This church is a historical  cornerstone because Wandering Spirit Woman’s paternal Grandfather was instrumental in persuading the Honorable Thurgood Marshall to visit her little village, Hillburn, NY in Lower NYS and desegregate the village’s schools 11 years before BROWN VS. BOARD OF EDUCATION. Wandering Spirit Woman still lives in the Village of Hilburn, NY where she continues to carry on the fight to keep all her relations’ native history alive.

Carla ‘Wandering Spirit’ Alexander embodies what the World Alliance of Indigenous Peoples’ Water Is Life Cruise is all about. This is why we are asking that you join us in celebrating the indigenous woman that she is by sponsoring her with a $125 donation or whatever you can afford to help make this event absolutely memorable for her. It is time to give Ms. Carla ‘Wandering Spirit’ Alexander her roses.

Wandering Spirit Woman coordinated the Annual Indigenous Peoples of the Americas Parade NYC , October 15th , 2022. The parade's committee and coordinators are preparing for our 4th Annual Parade this year October 18th 2025. The projects mission is one that Wandering Spirit Woman breathes and lives by.

She stated, "Our goal is to spread unity, pride, traditions, cultural identity and self-esteem for all indigenous peoples of the Americas." To support Wandering Spirit Woman's participation in our Water Is Life Cruise Excursion as an honoree, please click on the link below.
